If you’ve ever wanted to type words like résumé, fiancé, or café correctly, but didn’t know how to add the accents — you’re in the right place. Typing accent marks is easy once you know the shortcuts. On Windows:
- Acute Accent (é): Hold Alt, then type 0233 on the numeric keypad.
(For example, é = Alt + 0233, á = Alt + 0225.) - Grave Accent (è): Alt + 0232
- Circumflex (ê): Alt + 0234
- Tilde (ñ): Alt + 0241
Tip: You must use the numeric keypad — it doesn’t work with the top number row.
On Mac:
- Hold Option, then press the accent key, release both, and then type the letter:
- Option + e, then e → é
- Option + `, then e → è
- Option + i, then e → ê
- Option + n, then n → ñ
On Mobile (iPhone/Android):
- Tap and hold a letter to see accent options pop up.
Example: hold down e to choose from é, è, ê, ë.
