This on-screen keyboard lets you type accented letters with no shortcuts and no settings to change. Click characters to build a word or phrase, then copy the whole thing at once. It’s useful on a shared or work computer where you can’t add keyboard layouts, or when you just need a few accented words in a hurry.
How to use the accent keyboard
- Click into the text box and type normally with your own keyboard.
- When you reach a letter that needs an accent, click it on the on-screen keyboard. It’s inserted where your cursor is.
- Use Shift / the capitals toggle for uppercase letters like É or Ñ.
- When you’re done, click Copy and paste the text wherever you need it.
Example: typing “jalapeño crème brûlée”
Type jalape with your keyboard, click ñ, then type o. Add a space and type cr, click è, and type me. Add another space, type br, click û, type l, click é, then type e. Click Copy and paste the phrase into your menu, recipe or message. That’s four accented letters, with no shortcuts to remember.
Common problems and limitations
My text disappeared when I left the page. The keyboard doesn’t save your text. Copy it before you close or refresh the tab.
The accent looks right but search or spell-check doesn’t recognize the word. Some apps treat a pasted accented letter differently from one typed with a shortcut. Retyping the word with a keyboard shortcut usually fixes it.
Some sites won’t accept accented characters. Certain forms, usernames and older systems only accept plain letters. That restriction is on the site’s end, and pasting won’t get around it.
This is a workaround, not a long-term fix. If you type accents every day, a keyboard shortcut or the US-International layout will be much faster.
